Released in June 2015, this statistical brief posted by the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) and sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) details mental and substance use disorders (M/SUDs), which in the United States, an estimated 51.2 million adults aged 18 years or older (22.5% of adults) have experienced one or more M/SUDs in the past 12 months. In 2012, 8.6 million inpatient stays involved at least one mental disorder or substance use disorder diagnosis, accounting for 32.3% of inpatient stays . . .
