Veterans Affairs Reports $2.6 Billion Shortfall, Requests Permission To Shift Funds From Veterans Choice Card Program
On June 25, 2015, Veterans Affairs (VA) officials informed the U.S. House Committee On Veterans Affairs that the VA had a $2.6 billion shortfall in its fiscal year 2015 budget, and requested permission to shift funds from the newly established Veterans Choice Card program to other veterans health programs. The shortfall is due in part to an increase in the number of veterans receiving care and the number receiving medication treatment for hepatitis C, as well as construction cost overruns of a new facility in Colorado.
