One-Third Of New Dual Eligibles In Maryland Have Mental Health Disorders
About one-third of Maryland residents newly eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid (dual eligibles) in 2008 had mental health conditions. Among the dual eligibles who were first eligible for Medicaid, 38.8% had mental health disorders. Among those who were first eligible for Medicare, 36.7% had mental health disorders. Depression was the most prevalent mental health condition among the new duals with mental health disorders, affecting about two-thirds overall.
