Ohio Medicaid Implements Reimbursement For Telemedicine Services

During calendar year 2015, the Ohio Department of Medicaid began reimbursing for certain services delivered via telemedicine technologies. The state defines telemedicine as a real-time time video communication between a health care consumer at the originating site and a medical professional at a remote site. Physicians and licensed psychologists may be eligible to deliver telemedicine services if the distance between the originating site and remote site is greater than five miles. Originating sites can include physician offices, clinics, rural health clinics, federally qualified health centers, and outpatient hospitals.
