Los Angeles County Approves Plan to Move 1,000 Inmates With Mental Illness Out Of County Jail & To Treatment Programs

On August 11, 2015, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to move offenders with mental illness out of the county jail. The board also voted to build a new jail to replace the Men’s Central Jail with a new 3,885-bed facility focused on treatment for offenders with mental illness and addiction disorders, and to move forward with creating a new women’s jail in the City of Lancaster.
