Court Approves $4.7 Million Settlement In Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Scandal
On August 10, 2015, a federal district court approved a $4.75 million settlement agreement in a Pennsylvania juvenile justice corruption scandal. Between January 2003 and May 2008, two former Luzerne County judges received $2.6 million in kickbacks for sending delinquent youth to PA Child Care and its sister facility, Western PA Child Care. The settlement is between at least 2,400 youth and their families and Robert Powell, the businessman who owned the two facilities.
