Tech Strategy, Data Optimization, & Robots Top The Agenda At Sold-Out OPEN MINDS 2015 Technology & Informatics Institute In Washington, D.C.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. (November 7, 2015) — OPEN MINDS, a leading health and human service market intelligence and management support firm, concluded the highly anticipated 2015 OPEN MINDS Technology and Informatics Institute last week. Roughly 450 of the industry’s leading executives gathered in Washington, D.C. for the sold-out event focused on the emerging technologies changing the management, financing, and delivery of care for consumers with complex needs. The theme for this year’s meeting was Building Your Tech Edge: Using The Power of Information & Technology For Competitive Advantage – with a focus on increasing the value of your technology investments (and your competitive advantage).
Paul Grundy, M.D., M.P.H., FACOEM, FACPM, Global Director of Healthcare Transformation, IBM, & President, Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative, opened the institute with his presentation, “Making The Transition To Value-Based Payment: Transforming Your Organization For The New Normal.” In the session, Dr. Grundy reviewed the history of the evolution of medical homes and the early data on their impact. He also discussed the need for better population health management and individual care coordination, along with the shift to value-based payment. To close the first day of the institute, David K. Kelley, M.D., M.P.A., Chief Medical Officer, Office of Medical Assistance Programs, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services spoke about Pennsylvania’s Medicaid programs use of data and analytics to shape policy for complex consumers. In his presentation, “Leveraging The Power Of Analytics To Shape Medicaid Policy & Practices For Complex Consumers: The Experience of Pennsylvania’s Medicaid Program,” Dr. Kelley discussed four Pennsylvania Medicaid initiatives that show the power of metrics-based policy making – and an example of best management practices for executives in health plans and provider organizations. The final day of the institute opened with a presentation by David C. Mohr, Ph.D., Director, Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies & Professor, Preventive Medicine, Northwestern University. In his presentation, “165,000 Health Care Apps & Counting: What We’ve Learned & Where We’re Going With Digital Mental Health,” Dr. Mohr discussed the design of intervention technologies, and efficient models of support, and future directions for improving the effectiveness of these tools in mental health treatment.
Monica E. Oss, Chief Executive Officer, OPEN MINDS closed the event with her plenary session, “How To Make Technology Work For You: The Four Pillars Of Strategic Tech Success.” Ms. Oss addressed the future impact of disruptive technology on health plans and provider organizations.
