Kaiser Permanente & California Mental Health Worker Union Reach Three-Year Contract Agreement

On November 15, 2015, Kaiser Permanente announced it had reached a three-year contract agreement with the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), which represents Kaiser’s California mental health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatric social workers, and marriage and family therapists. As a result, NUHW canceled a strike scheduled to begin November 16, 2015. The agreement, includes provisions allowing Kaiser mental health professionals to advocate for Kaiser members who need more intensive treatment and provisions that set a ratio of new visits to follow-up treatment visits. Additionally, Kaiser agreed to rescind proposed cuts to pension benefits.
