Minnesota All-Payer Health Care Spending On Chronic Conditions Averages $12,800 Annually
Health care costs for Minnesota residents with one or more chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, asthma or congestive heart failure, averaged $12,800 a year in 2012 – about eight times the $1,600 average spending associated with an insured resident without a chronic condition. In 2012, according to the Minnesota All Payer Claims Database (MN APCD), the total cost of chronic disease was $22.7 billion, which includes costs covered by payers, insurers, and individuals.
