Humana Launches Value-Based Orthopedic Specialty Care Model For Its Ohio Medicare Advantage Plans

On March 10, 2016, Humana announced it launched a value-based orthopedic specialty care model for Humana Medicare Advantage members in Ohio who undergo total knee or hip replacements. For the initiative, Humana contracted with five orthopedic specialty provider organizations in four markets; the participating provider organizations are orthopedic surgeons who will be responsible for the consumer’s entire joint replacement episode of care. Humana estimates that between 200 and 300 consumers will be served annually over the two-year contracts by the participating orthopedic surgeons.
