White House Launches ‘The Opportunity Project’
On March 7, 2016, the White House launched “The Opportunity Project” an initiative to share federal data with communities. The focus of the initiative is to use synthesized data to create tools that help improve access to jobs, housing, transportation, schools, and other neighborhood amenities. The launch of the project included a new website, https://opportunity.census.gov/, and the release of a package of federal and local data sets in an easy-to-use format for use by civic leaders, community organizations, and families.
