In 2015, the Pennsylvania Department of Health fined 32 nursing homes for violations, up from 11 in 2014. During 2015, the state also put 19 nursing home licenses on provisional status, up from nine the previous year. The state’s enforcement actions have increased since 2012, when it imposed no fines and placed only two nursing home licenses on provisional status. According to state trend data, enforcement had been falling steadily since 2003, when there were 74 fines issued, 89 nursing homes placed on provisional licensing, seven bans on admission, and one license revocation.
