Court Rules Against New York’s NYC Safe Hub Program & Monitoring of People With Mental Illness

In a legal decision issued on February 10, 2016 by the Supreme Court, New York County in the Matter of MP v Ramesar the judge said New York City's new program, the NYC Safe Hub, that monitors people diagnosed with mental illness who are deemed to be potentially dangerous, is “not a valid legal standard for involuntarily committing a person” under the state’s Mental Hygiene Law. The judge said the mayor “cannot use the Mental Hygiene Law in this way.“
