New York Non-Profits Providing Developmental Disability Services Report 23% Staff Turnover Rate

Non-profit organizations that provide developmental disability services in New York State have a 23% staff turnover rate according to a survey of 136 organizations that serve people who receive services funded by the New York Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). A key driver for the turnover rate is difficulty retaining direct support professionals (DSPs). During 2015, 19% of all DSPs employed by the organizations left their positions. Of those who left in 2015, nearly one-third (29%) left within six months of being hired.
