AdvoServ To Transition Florida Carlton Palms Residents To Smaller Group Homes
On June 17, 2016, AdvoServ, which provides residential developmental disability services, agreed to transition the 202 residents of its Carlton Palms facility in Florida to smaller group homes by 2019. The agreement is part of a settlement with the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) to address prior incidents of abuse and neglect of the residents and to ensure that the individuals can continue to receive Medicaid home-and- community-based services (HCBS). Carlton Palms has halted admissions, and in May 2016, an APD monitoring team at the facility increased its presence to monitor resident safety.
