New Iowa Law Allows Psychologists To Prescribe Psychotropic Medications

The Iowa Board of Medicine and Board of Psychology are in the process of establishing rules for psychologists to write prescriptions for psychotropic medications, as directed by a new law signed on May 27, 2016. The provisions of the law apply to psychologists holding a Ph.D. in psychology and a Masters in pharmacology. The prescribing authority does not include narcotics.
