New York Asks CMS To Expand Definition Of Safety Net Providers For Medicaid DSRIP Projects
On July 7, 2016, the New York State Department of Health (DOH) asked the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to expand the definition of a safety net provider organization for its Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program. The state asked CMS to count primary care professionals serving at least 25 Medicaid beneficiaries as safety net provider organizations. Currently non-hospital safety net provider organizations must have 35% of their patient panel enrolled in Medicaid, or be uninsured, or be dual eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
