New Rhode Island Law Requires Health Plans To Cover Telemedicine Services
On July 15, 2016, Rhode Island enacted a new law that requires commercial health plans to reimburse for services provided via telemedicine technologies. The law requires health plans to cover telemedicine services at the same reimbursement rate as in-person consultations between covered members and health care professionals. Health plans can impose a deductible, copayment, or coinsurance requirement for a health care service provided through telemedicine.
