Medicare Reaches Confidential Settlements With 400 Hospitals Over DSH Lawsuits

On July 14, 2016, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) entered confidential settlements with more than 400 hospitals over complaints about how CMS calculated the Medicare Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payment from 1991 through 2004. Other hospitals that filed similar lawsuits have not yet settled. No details about the individual settlements have been made public.
