Female physicians at public medical schools earn about 8% less annually than their male physician counterparts of the same age, experience, specialty, and faculty rank. The difference is about $20,000 annually; females earned an average of $227,783 and males earned an average of $247,661. The disparity was highest for neurology (15%), hematology/oncology (15%), surgery subspecialties (13%), cardiology (13%), and obstetrics/gynecology (12%).
