Iowa Reports Over 225 Grievances Filed During First Three Months Of New Medicaid Managed Care Plans

During the first three months after Iowa’s new Medicaid managed care plans went live on April 1, 2016, the state’s 607,977 beneficiaries filed more than 225 grievances against the three managed care organizations (MCOs) Amerigroup, AmeriHealth, and UnitedHealthcare. Of the nearly 568,000 Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in managed care, 32% are enrolled in Amerigroup, 37% in AmeriHealth, and 31% in UnitedHealthcare. Of the 225 grievances filed, 145 (64%) were against Amerigroup, 42 (18%) were against AmeriHealth, and 39 (17%) were against UnitedHealthcare.
