White House Regulatory Freeze Delays HHS Rules, Including Sharing Addiction Treatment Records
A White House order issued by President Donald Trump on January 20, 2017, to freeze federal rulemaking is delaying new and pending regulations issued by the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Included in the delay is a final rule issued on January 18 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) regarding confidentiality of addiction treatment data. The rule was slated to go into effect on February 17, 2017. However, on February 16, HHS issued a notice delaying the effective date to March 21, 2017.
