Feds Report $3.3 Billion In Health Care Fraud Recoveries During Fiscal Year 2016
Federal health care fraud recoveries in fiscal year 2016 totaled $3.3 billion, up from the $2.4 billion in recoveries the previous year. The $3.3 billion represents funds recovered during fiscal year 2016 following federal criminal and civil actions with respect to Medicare and Medicaid health care fraud and abuse. Of the $3.3 billion, $1.7 billion went to the Medicare Trust Fund, and $235.2 million in federal Medicaid money was transferred separately to the U.S. Treasury.
