Oregon Hospitals Spent $157 Million On Charity Care In 2015, Down 37% From 2014
During state fiscal year (FY) 2015, Oregon’s 60 acute care hospitals provided $157 million in charity care, down 37% from the $247 million in charity care provided during 2014. Overall during 2015, Oregon’s hospitals provided $1.9 billion in community benefits. Charity care represented about 8% of total community benefit. About 70% of community benefit ($1.3 billion) in FY 2015 constituted unreimbursed charges for Medicare and Medicaid. Unreimbursed costs for Medicaid were $634 million, which represented one-third of the FY 2015 community benefit.
