NYC Child Welfare Caseloads Up Nearly 20% In First Half Of Fiscal Year 2017

Average child protective caseloads for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) rose by 19%, from 9.2 cases per caseworker in 2015 to 11.0 cases during fiscal year 2016. The nationally recommended standard is 12.0 cases per child welfare worker. By December 2016, average caseloads for protective/diagnostic caseworkers citywide averaged 13.8, and across the city’s five boroughs, average caseloads ranged from 12.3 in Queens to 15.9 in Manhattan.
