New York State To Launch ‘Prison-To-Public Housing’ Pilot In Syracuse, Schenectady, & White Plains

On March 3, 2017, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced plans to launch a reentry pilot project in three cities to allow formerly incarcerated individuals to live in public housing with their families. The pilot will take place in the cities of Schenectady, Syracuse, and White Plains. The approach is currently being tested in New York City in an ongoing pilot program operated by the city’s Housing Authority. The Governor’s announcement noted that in the New York City pilot, none of the 85 participants as of September 2016 had been convicted of a new crime since enrollment . . .
