Cardiio, Runtastic, & Matis Mobile Health Apps Settle With New York Over Medical Claims, Privacy Practices

On March 23, 2017, the New York Attorney General entered settlements with three mobile health application developers regarding misleading claims and questionable privacy practices. The developers are Cardiio, Runtastic, and Matis (its app is called My Baby’s Beat). The companies agreed to amend marketing statements about their apps and modify their privacy policies to better protect consumers, while also making clear that their apps are not medical devices and are not approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The three apps are sold in the Apple App Store and through Google Play.
