Quest Diagnostics & LabCorp Sued For Excessive Out-Of-Network Charges
On April 6, 2017, lawsuits were filed against Quest Diagnostics Inc. and Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) alleging that the two laboratories charged consumers excessively high rates for diagnostic tests not covered by the consumers’ health plans. The plaintiffs had no agreement with the respective labs, and when their insurance companies did not pay their claims, the labs unilaterally charged the consumers excessive, non-market based rates. No hearing date has been set. Both complaints seek class-action status.
