Percentage Of Workers Covered By Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance Dropped From 54% In 2008 To 48% In 2015

The percentage of private sector workers enrolled in an employer-sponsored health insurance plan dropped by 6.1 percentage points between 2008 and 2015. In 2008, about 53.9% of employees were covered by an employer sponsored plan. In 2015, the percentage was 47.8%.

The enrollment decline in employer-sponsored health insurance had three key sources: declines in the offer rate, the eligibility rate, and the take-up rate. Between 2008 and 2015, fewer employees worked in an establishment that offered insurance.
