Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute Readmission Rates Drop From 20% In 2013 To 10% In 2015 After Implementing New Discharge Protocols

Between 2013 and 2015, 30-day readmission rates for the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) in Harrisburg dropped by half, from 20% to 10.4%. The drop occurred after PPI implemented a discharge program modeled on the Re-Engineered Discharge (RED) toolkit. Before implementing the RED toolkit, PPI’s 30-day readmission rates were higher than three other acute-care facilities in the region.
