New Jersey Governor Proposes Moving Division Of Mental Health & Addiction Services To Health Department

In a Reorganization Plan filed with the state, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie proposed transferring mental health and addiction services from the Department of Human Services (DHS) and into the state Department of Health (DOH). The goal of the reorganization is to create a new system of integrated care that treats the “whole person,” by simultaneously addressing physical, mental and behavioral health care in the same primary care setting. A key goal is to improve access to addiction treatment by eliminating the need for consumers to navigate different provider organizations for their behavioral and physical health care services.
