Deaths among the Santa Clara County, California homeless population increased 164% between 2011 and 2016.  During the same period, the county’s annual January homeless census recorded an increase of 4%, from 7,067 in 2011 to 7,394 in 2017.  Some of these deaths are attributed to an aging homeless population. The county defines a person as homelessness if the person lives in a makeshift living space not normally designed for habitation, or lives in a publicly or privately operated, supervised shelter that provides temporary living arrangements.

Deaths among the Santa Clara County, California homeless population increased 164% between 2011 and 2016.  During the same period, the county’s annual January homeless census recorded an increase of 4%, from 7,067 in 2011 to 7,394 in 2017.  Some of these deaths are attributed to an aging homeless population.
