High-Intensity Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Reduces Severity Of Auditory Hallucinations
Non-invasive, high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) reduces the severity of auditory verbal hallucinations, based on a 30% reduction in scores on the Auditory Hallucinations Rating Scale. The rTMS treatment consisted of four sessions, each lasting 13 minutes, at two sessions per day. The procedure targeted the left temporoparietal region of the brain. Fourteen days after the rTMS treatment, about 35% of participants experienced a 30% or better reduction in the severity of auditory verbal hallucinations.
