Judge: IBM Owes Indiana $78 Million For Failed Welfare Automation
IBM owes Indiana $78 million for damages resulting from failed welfare automation, according to a Marion County judge. Hearings for the case began seven months ago.
In 2010, IBM and the state of Indiana simultaneously filed lawsuits against each other after IBM’s contract with the state to privatize and automate the processing of welfare applications was cancelled by then-Governor Mitch Daniels. Following the contract’s cancellation and several user complaints about the automation system, the Indiana Supreme court ruled in 2016 that IBM had breached its contract.
