On September 13, 2017 the Anaheim, California City Council declared a health and safety state of emergency related to a homeless encampment along the Santa Ana River Trail (SART). The encampment has an estimated population of between 400 and 600 individual campsites. To clear the encampment, the city intends to collaborate with Orange County and neighboring jurisdictions to create new transitional shelter sites to house the encampment residents.
