Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center In Waco, Texas May Become A State-Owned Mental Health Facility

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) requested funds to purchase the Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco and convert it into a state-owned mental health facility. HHSC submitted the request to the legislature in August 2017. The plan calls for the state to contribute $1 million to purchase the building, and another $65 million to renovate the facility to become a 339-bed mental health hospital. HHSC estimates the legislature would need to appropriate $190 million to fund services at the new facility.
