Texas Charter School Enrollment Up By 200+% From 2006 To 2017; Special Education Dropped
Between the 2006-2007 and 2016-2017 school years, enrollment in Texas charter schools increased by 236.4%, from 81,107 in the 2006-07 school year to 272,835 in the 2016-17 school year. From 2006 through 2017, Texas public school enrollment grew by 16.6%, from nearly 4.6 million in the 2006-2007 school year to nearly 5.4 million in the 2016-2017 school year.
Over the decade, the number of Texas public school students in traditional or charter schools receiving special education services declined by 3.9%, from 496,461 in the 2006-07 . . .
