Humboldt County, California Child Welfare Agency Agrees To Reform Handling Of Maltreatment Reports

On February 15, 2018, the Humboldt County, California Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)—Child Welfare Services (CWS) and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office agreed to reform how the county will handle child maltreatment reports. The state Attorney General had investigated the county’s compliance with California’s Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and the state’s Welfare and Institutions Code. The Attorney General’s investigation found that the county agencies failed to coordinate their duties to respond to reports of child abuse and neglect, which left children at-risk.
