Providence Rhode Island Opens Fire House ‘Safe Stations’ For Opioid Addiction Treatment
On January 2, 2018, the City of Providence, Rhode Island implemented the "Safe Stations" program for opioid addiction treatment. The Safe Station project turns Providence's 12 fire stations into a point of first contact for those who need help in their struggle with addiction. The program was modeled after a program implemented in Manchester, New Hampshire, which has saved over 3,000 lives since that program began on May 4, 2016.
