California Halves Use Of Antipsychotic Drugs Among Youth In Foster Care System

The percentage of California youth in foster care who are prescribed antipsychotic drugs has dropped from 6.4% in 2014 to 3.5% in 2017. For the year ended June 2014, 5,076 children out of the total 78,894 children in California foster care were prescribed antipsychotics. For the year ended June 2017, 2,656 of the total 75,205 children in foster care were prescribed antipsychotics.
