UnitedHealthcare’s Bundled Payment Program For Joint Replacement Cut Readmissions 22%

UnitedHealthcare reported that its Spine and Joint Solution, a bundled payment program offered to companies with self-funded health plans, led to a 22% reduction in hospital readmission rates at participating facilities compared to non-participating facilities. The complication rate was 17% lower among people undergoing joint replacement surgeries at participating facilities compared to non-participating facilities. Among people who had spine surgeries, readmissions were 10% lower at the participating facilities compared to non-participating facilities, and the individuals had 3.4% fewer complications at the participating facilities.
