Medicare To Launch Value-Based Purchasing For Skilled Nursing Facilities Starting October 1, 2018
On April 27, 2018, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule to launch payment adjustments for the Medicare value-based purchasing (VBP) program for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The VBP measure focuses on improvement in all-cause 30-day hospital readmission rates, based on a baseline established with 2015 claims data and SNF performance during calendar year 2017. The SNF VBP applies to hospital readmissions for fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries discharged from a Medicare-participating hospital, a critical access hospital, or a psychiatric hospital.
