Medicare Loosens Rules On Continuous Glucose Monitors
Medicare is making a coverage policy change for continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) that transmit data using smartphone apps. The change will allow clinical professionals to more accurately and effectively track the health of individuals they care for who have diabetes.
The newly announced policy removes a former Medicare coverage caveat that stated the Dexcom G5 CGM—the only covered and approved CGM app for the replacement of blood glucose monitors for diabetes treatment decisions—would not be covered by Medicare if consumers did not use it to transmit information about their glucose readings.
