Palm Beach County Jail Sued For Lengthy Solitary Confinement Of Youth Charged As Adults

On June 21, 2018, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was sued for keeping youth charged as adults in solitary confinement for long periods, and preventing the youths’ access to treatment or education services. The lawsuit was filed by Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc. and the Human Rights Defense Center in Lake Worth; the complaint names the sheriff’s office and the Palm Beach County School District as defendants. An evidentiary hearing is set to begin on October 3, 2018.
