Denver Approves Supervised Injection Site Plan; Feds Threaten Cities Over Plans

On November 26, 2018, the Denver City Council approved Bill 18-1292, an ordinance authorizing a pilot program to allow for a supervised injection site within city limits. The pilot would allow the city to use non-federal funds to contract with a non-profit organization to operate a site where intravenous drugs could be used under supervision of trained staff. The onsite staff would be able to administer Narcan to reverse opioid overdoses.
