Denver Approves Supervised Injection Site Plan; Feds Threaten Cities Over Plans

On November 26, 2018, the Denver City Council approved Bill 18-1292, an ordinance authorizing a pilot program to allow for a supervised injection site within city limits. The pilot would allow the city to use non-federal funds to contract with a non-profit organization to operate a site where intravenous drugs could be used under supervision of trained staff. The onsite staff would be able to administer Narcan to reverse opioid overdoses. The pilot program would last for twenty-four months from the start date of operations, at which point the Denver Board of Public Health and Environment . . .
