Los Angeles Dementia Care Program Reduces Nursing Home Admits By 40%
The University of California Los Angeles Health System Alzheimer and Dementia Care program reduced nursing home admissions by 40%, compared to those not participating in the dementia care program. There were no differences between the two study groups regarding hospitalizations, emergency room visits, or hospital readmission.
In the dementia care program, each participant and caregiver met with a nurse practitioner specializing in dementia care for a 90-minute, in-person structured needs assessment.
