HHS Asks Pentagon For Space To House 5,000 ‘Unaccompanied Alien Children’
The Health and Human Services Department (HHS) has asked the Pentagon for "temporary influx" space to house up to 5,000 unaccompanied alien children (UAC) who are projected to come across the border without parental accompaniment. The request is for space in one or more Department of Defense (DoD) installations in the Continental United States. HHS will also transfer up to $286 million from within the department to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and will transfer up to $99 million of other funding within ORR to support the UAC efforts.
