CMS Finalizes Expanded Medicare Advantage Telehealth Benefit Policies

On April 5, 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized policies intended to allow Medicare Advantage plans to include expanded telehealth benefits starting in plan year 2020. Beneficiaries living in urban or rural areas will be able to receive telehealth services at home, as well as at a health care facility. The new policies will allow Medicare Advantage plans to offer telehealth services as a standard benefit, rather than only a supplemental benefit accessible at a health care facility.
