Justice Department Reaches Agreement With West Virginia Over ADA Compliance For Children With Mental Illness

On May 14, 2019, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reached an agreement with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) over the state’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for children with mental illness or serious emotional disturbance. DHHR and DOJ signed a Memorandum of Understanding focused on serving children with mental illness and emotional disorders in the most integrated setting appropriate, by expanding community-based mental health services and reducing the number of children in residential mental health treatment facilities.
