New Jersey DHS Bars Bellwether Behavioral Health From Running Group Homes
On May 22, 2019, the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) announced that the state would cancel its contracts with Bellwether Behavioral Health for group home services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Bellwether operates 62 group homes and related day programs, and with the loss of contracts must turn the programs over to other provider organizations selected by DHS. This move follows a 10-month moratorium on admissions. DHS said it has selected nine provider organizations to serve Bellwether’s 460 residents but has not released the names of these organizations.
